Before we put a dog up for adoption, there are a few hurdles that they need to go through such as, vet check, desexing, vaccination, microchipping, and worming for both flea and heartworm. We even resolve any behavioural issues they may have.
The next step is to then advertise on Pet Rescue and our SSRAI Adopt page. A great photo is an absolute must to assist with the adoption process, and we are so happy that SSRAI has the support of a few wonderful photographer’s, who are able to meet with the foster carer and the rescued dog.
Before you can meet the dog you have chosen, SSRAI reviews all adoption applicants and once we are satisfied we will contact the foster carers to arrange a suitable time for you to meet. Once this has occurred a member from SSRAI will then conduct a house check of your home and if all the checkboxes are ticked, you and your chosen dog will go through a two-week trial period at your home. During this time both SSRAI and the foster carer are available to assist you with any issues you, and/or the dog may be experiencing during this time. If during this two week trial both parties are happy the next stage is commenced.
Once the trial has been completed and everything has gone well, the adoption paperwork is completed and the dog is then transferred to their new owner. SSRAI will maintain links to the adopted dog to ensure the adoption goes well and that your new dog is set up for success in a happy home, with good company and a loving and caring family. We will send out courtesy letters in the future to try and maintain a connection with your new found family member as all the dogs rescued are very special to us.
