Nakia is a beautiful 3½-year-old German Shepherd with a big heart, a love for her people and all the intelligence and personality we adore about the breed.

At heart, Nakia is an affectionate, people-oriented girl who loves being part of family life. She enjoys cuddles, being close to her humans and, if given the choice, happily sharing the couch or snuggling up on the bed. She is looking for a home where she can be included, loved and given the opportunity to thrive.

Nakia is a clever girl who enjoys learning and working with her people. She already knows a range of commands and tricks, including sit, wait, leave it, look at me, shake, high five and roll over. She responds well to routine, consistency and clear guidance, and with continued training, she has so much potential.

Like many German Shepherds, Nakia is naturally alert and protective of her surroundings. She can be vocal when she notices activity around the home, and she is still learning how to settle and switch off. She benefits from structure, mental stimulation and having a job to do, alongside plenty of affection and companionship.

Nakia currently lives happily with a young male German Shepherd, and the two coexist well. She would potentially suit a home with a calm, confident male dog, provided introductions and compatibility are carefully assessed. She is not suited to living with other female dogs due to a previous experience, and due to her strong prey drive, she will need a home without cats or other small animals.

Nakia has also been enjoying doggy daycare, where her confidence around other dogs has continued to grow. She has had limited experience living with other dogs before her current home, so she is still developing her social skills and benefits from ongoing guidance and positive experiences.

She can be enthusiastic when greeting people and is still working on her lead manners, so her new family should be prepared to continue her training. She has not been assessed around small children, and any home with children would need to take this into consideration.

Nakia would thrive with someone who understands German Shepherds or similar working breeds and appreciates their intelligence, loyalty and need for engagement. A home with someone who works from home, can take her to work with them, has flexible hours or can provide plenty of company would be ideal. She is not a dog who will be happiest spending long periods alone in the backyard; she wants to be involved in everyday life.

Nakia's ideal home would offer:

- No other female dogs, cats or small animals.
- Potentially a compatible male dog, subject to careful introductions.
- An understanding of German Shepherds and their needs.
- Ongoing training, routine, boundaries and positive guidance.
- Regular exercise, mental stimulation and enrichment.
- Plenty of companionship and opportunities to learn.

Nakia has so much to offer the right family. She is affectionate, intelligent, loyal and eager to please, and she deserves a home that understands her needs and will help her continue to grow into the wonderful companion she can be.
