Keeping SSRAI functioning requires a magnitude of work behind the scenes to ensure dogs can come into care and find their forever home. The more hands available ensures our help continues and grows for our beloved shepherds.
Below are just a few ideas on what’s involved and how you can help becoming involved with volunteering for SSRAI. With many more tasks available to help out, please complete our volunteer application form and we will be in contact.
Open your heart and your home by caring for our dogs once they arrive as SSRAI dogs. Please see Foster Tab for more information on fostering.
As a non-profit organisation, fundraising is vital to our ongoing support, Adoption fees do not cover costs incurred for the vast majority of the dogs we take in especially the Medical or long term cases.
SSRA Inc works to save and rehome German Shepherds all across Australia. We cannot continue our work without people like you. One of the best ways to assist a charity is to leave a bequest in your will. Read more on how to set up a bequest ‘here’
Another way some people are finding to help charities is to start up a fundraiser for the wedding or special event in lieu of gifts.
We receive requests to take in dogs from pounds and owner surrenders across the country. As we are Victorian based, being one of our registered transport driver volunteers for Sweet Shepherd Rescue, ensures dogs coming into care can reach their foster carers destination. Long trip’s are split among multiple volunteers to share the driving. Transport is also regularly required for veterinary visits and helping with the delivery of donated goods to our foster carers eg food, beds and large bulky items.

Love photography and love dogs? Why not combine the two and become one of our volunteer photographers with us, you will capture our foster dogs character and can increase your profile.
Our foster dogs are across Victoria, but there are times we need photographs of dogs completed in other states as well.
Photographs taken are used to show our dogs on our social media, our website and other rescue platforms. Times required can be when a new arrival comes in, getting ready for adoption, or even creating beautiful lasting memories of our senior/medical care dogs as well if available. Good photographs are critical to our re-homing process.
Undertaking house checks and assessments on dogs can be very lengthy and can also cover quite some distance. Having volunteers available in locations across the State for property checks and dog assessments across the country, ensures our standard of care is maintained to a high level and allows regular feedback on our dogs in foster care and far and wide across Victoria.
The operational side of any rescue requires substantial administration work which arises any day at any time. If you have good people skills and attention to details we would love to hear from you. At times circumstances appear that need immediate responses and we need extra help with all aspects.
